J DETROIT TURF NOTES Jockey George Quackenbush, who suffered a broken leg when thrown from Donna James at Thistle Down last summer, was at the track today. The cast was only recently removed from the boys leg. John Bests One Night was unsexed by Dr. 1. H. ODonnell. Louis Guymon topped the riders during the past week with seven victories to his credit, but Charles Stevenson is the leading rider of the meeting with fifteen triumphs. He won six races last week. Lee Hardy rode four winners last week and is tied with Guymon with twelve victories to his credit. Jockey C. Critchfield returned from Long Branch, where he won the Long Branch Handicap with Cease Fire. Claude Hunt brought Jane Vito, Aces Wild, Peter Pumpkin and Tedsim from Washington Park. L. Richards brought Harpen Belle and Every Effort from Beulah Park. H. C. Eldredge brought Dependent in the same van. A. L. Copeland, Jr. sent Fred Alger, Jr.s Genet to the Alger farm to be turned out for a month. A. R. LaFrey, agent for the Railway Express Company, opened his offices at the Fair Grounds and will be on hand daily to assist horsemen shipping from here the latter part of the meeting.
