QUEL JEU IN RUNNING MOOD Wins Gravesend Handicap at Aqueduct from Onrush and Coequel Field of Bad Actors. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 24 Quel Jeu, the temperamental son of High Time and Question, was in a running mood at Aqueduct today when he was winner of the Gravesend Handicap, over the seven-furlong distance. He led home Paul B. Codds Onrush and third went to Coequel, the mare that races for the Maemere Farm stable, which was making her first appearance of the year. Back of her finished Sunport. With Quel Jeu, Hoops and Round Table all in the same field, George Cassidy had his hands full starting the Gravesend Handicap. There was a delay of eleven minutes and not until Quel Jeu was sent to the outside was word given. As the field left Quel Jeu was last in a rather ragged send-off, but he was in motion and Stout rushed him along on the outside until he was right in contention at the end of the first furlong. Coequel was one of the fortunates at the start and Sarno made every use of her speed when he sent her right along until she was clear of the others. Round Table was close after the mare, but he did not last long and, as he dropped back, it was Onrush and Quel Jeu that took up the chase. But Coequel hung on with good courage and she was still showing the way when well into the stretch. Finally Quel Jeu moved to the old mare and then he was on past to be home the winner by three lengths. Onrush was two lengths before Coequel and she, in turn, had beaten Sunport by two lengths. Her first outing, Coequel gave a good account of herself and should improve. The tightest fit of the day came in the fifth, a mile and a sixteenth race, for platers of the better quality, when Hugh W. Jacksons Early Settler and E. G. Rands Sun Lamp crossed the line closely locked. The photograph awarded the decision to Early Settler. Only four started in this and five lengths back of the battling pair there was another duel for the third money, with Marshall Fields Wanderobo earning the decision over Janeen.
