WATCHERUN, close up all the way, responded gamely when hard urged, came to the outside in the stretch, wore down ALKALI and easily held COMMANDMAN safe. The latter broke fast but, unable to keep up in the early part, gained steadily in the final quarter mile and was going gamely at the end. MARBLE BOY broke well, showed early speed, dropped back on the lower turn, came on again and finished well. ALKALI showed early speed, drew into a good lead on the lower turn but tired badly in the final eighth. WITTORA raced evenly. BERYL KING, rank at the post, delayed the start several minutes, broke "slowly, and was always far back. Overweight Wittora, 1 pound; Star Lad, 5. SIR JOHN S., in close quarters on the lower turn, cams between horses in the stretch and finished gamely. HALLE, away well, showed early speed, took a short lead after the start, held on gamely in the drive, but tired slightly at the end. TRIPLE PLAY, well placed early, was on the outside of the leaders in the stretch and held on gamely. CHARLIE H., outrun for the first three-quarters, was on the outside on the back stretch, worked his way up between horses in the stretch, wore down the leaders inside the final sixteenth and was drawing clear at the end. BOURBON PRINCE, under early restraint, gained fast when urged, took a short lead in the stretch, came on gamely in the drive, but could not withstand the winner. SARAH JUSTICE, well placed in the early running, made a game bid in the stretch but tired in the drive. MULLET showed a good effort. FORCEFUL tired badly. GAY DREAM quit. BAGENOMINA broke well, lacked early sped, came well in the stretch and was going gamely at 1j end. CHI-GAL-closed -well. AIRZON started slowly, moved up with a rush after going a half mile, gained a contending position in the stretch, but tired slightly near the end. INDIAN BOY tired in the drive. .
