6 JAMES STARS AT DELAWARE Leading 1936 Jockey Scores With Four Mounts at Du Pont Oval. Chicago-Owned Tranquillity Farm Scores Double, Sea Ted and Wild Turkey Earning Purses Ironbound Easily. STANTON, Del., June 29 Wild Turkeys triumph in the Dover Purse, which featured this afternoons off-day program at Delaware Park, marked a double for the Tranquillity Farm of H. H. Cross, Chicago sportsman, and four for jockey Basil James. Trainer E. L. Snyder saddled Wild Turkey and Sea Ted for their victories, while James other scores were on E. K. Brysons Ella-bee and Sleuth. A heavy, holding track prevailed for the afternoons sport and small fields were the order. The crowd was of moderate size and the speculation lacked briskness. Clear weather was in order for most of the afternoon, becoming cloudy dux-ing the later events. In the Dover Purse, which brought out five capable three-year-olds and older horses for a test at a mile and one-sixteenth, Wild Turkey won by two and a half lengths over A. J. Sacketts Tabitha. Cleaveland Putnams Pompeys Squaw was beaten another eight lengths for the place while finishing a length and a half before Prince Alone. Post Meridian completed the field. UNDER STRONG RESTRAINT. As Pompeys Squaw set the pace, James had Wild Turkey under strong restraint several lengths away and well out from the rail. Tabitha, on the inside, was nearest the pacemaker, while Prince Alone also was close by while swerving repeatedly under very weak handling. Leaving the back stretch James sent up the six-year-old daughter of Hourless and Martin Bird on the outside. Wild Turkey responded in such willing fashion that she had the leaders collared zjon after the field had straigh.ened out for the stretch run. In the meantime Tabitha had overtaken Pompeys Squaw. Wild Turkey put Tabitha away after a short brush and then drew out in clever fashion while Pompeys Squaw, although tiring badly, had no trouble saving third honors over Prince Alone and Post Meridian. The time for the mile and one-sixteenth was 1:52. Continued on thirty-eighth page. JAMES STARS AT DELAWARE Continued from first page. The Tranquillity Farm stable of H. H. Cross provided its first winner of the meeting in the second event, when Basil James brought Sea Ted from behind in the stretch to defeat the Brandywine Stables Broadkill by two and a half lengths. Sir Rose was well back in third place as Nathan Hale, the favorite, was fourth among the seven platers going six furlongs. Time Signal, a half-brother to Misstep, owned by M. A. Harris, made good for the talent which installed him an odds-on favorite, leading most of the way over the six furlongs distance of the third event. He was in hand at the end, where the chestnut son of High Time and St. Theresa was four lengths in front of Frank Hayes Sundad,--as Dixie Bee was another two lengths, away.
