CONGRESSMAN IS DOUBTFUL Cracked Jpeel May Keep Gelding from Cincinnati Trophy. Absence of Cox Performer Will Make Latonias Fixture Wide Open Race Knee Deep Favorite. LATONIA, Ky., June 29. Prospects of preparing the Parkview Stables Congressman between now and Saturday for his engagement in the ,500 added Cincinnati Trophy, have diminished considerably, arid Tom B. Young, trainer of the son of Rhiriock Our Carrie, is likely to pass up the stake as a precaution against further injury. Though Congressmans cracked heel ia responding to treatment and is practically mended, trainer Young explained that the bay gelding is a glutton for work, and he did not deem it advisable to rush his charge too fast to have him ready for the six furlongs sprint on Saturday. Congressman won his only two starts at Latonia this season, and was regarded as the logical choice to capture the coveted prize. With the withdrawal of Mrs. George B. Coxs speedy performer, the race becomes a wide open affair for which more than a dozen colts and geldings are expected to compete. Five eligibles for the impending struggle went through their training paces this morning in preparation for the race, including J. W. Parrishs Knee Deep, which is likely I to be installed the favorite for the event, j CREDITABLE EFFORT. It was only a short gallop that trainer J. M. Goode prescribed for the son of Percentage, but it was a highly creditable effort, as the chestnut racer was timed the first quarter in :23, and three furlongs in :35, handily, after which he was eased up. Another from the Parrish barn that travelled the same distance was Pameiob, which is not as well regarded as Knee Deep, but recorded the same time as his stable companion for the three panels. I John Shouse, from the stable of Tom B. Young, which recently figured in a dead j heat here and which has displayed a good j j brand of speed on occasion, traversed a half mile in :51, accomplishing the test in i handy fashion, and giving the impression that he will be sent after the Cincinnati I Trophy. The Longridge Stables Tea Hound, which j was supported with rare confidence on a I couple of occasions though his performances jdid not justify the backing accorded him, breezed three furlongs in :24, :36; while the , only other member of the fifty-three eligi-! bles for the stake to have an outing was I Dan Lehans Jeffersontown, a son of Jean , Valjean Brown Wing, which has not yet started here. I The veteran Kentucky trainer engaged his hopeful in a three-quarters of a mile I test, going the half mile in :49, while the six furlongs were completed in 1:15, handily.
