WILLIAM 60LTZ SUSPENDED c ; - nr Stable Foreman is Punished for Neglect in Guarding Jungle Chase in Doping Case. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 29. After a thorough investigation the New York State Racing Commission took action today in. the case of Jungle Chase, a three-year-old colt in the stable of Alvin Untermyer, which was tampered with on June 19, by suspending William Goltz, stable foreman, for a period of thirty days to July 27, 1937, inclusive. On June 19, the colt was reported by the stable trainer, Hugh Dufford, to be suffering from a drug. The commission steward directed the scratching of the horse from the seventh race, in which he had been entered. The investigation showed that the horse had been reached during the luncheon hour when the trainer had left the horse in the care of Goltz. The evidence showed that the stable had been left unguarded by the foreman in the face of specific instructions to the contrary. The opportunity was thu3 created and utilized by someone whose identity has not been established, to administer the drug, which, however, did not get beyond the horses mouth and did not incapacitate him. As it was impossible to estate lish his condition at the moment, the scratch was ordered as a measure of protection to the public and the stable, -especially as the horse promised to be one of the choices in the race.
