HIGH FINANCE, quickest to begin, was taken under steadying reserve when overtaken by PRIMER, was rated along until reaching the stretch, then went to the front to draw clear in the last eighth. JOLLY, well placed and under restraint for the first three-eighths, responded gamely when called upon and finished with good energy on the outside through the stretch. PRIMER displayed good speed, but was much used up in racing with the winner, had little left for the closing test and barely held on long enough to save third from BROWNEYED PAT. The latter was outrun early came through on the inside the entire last three-eighths and closed with good energy. COL. BIXER was impeded sharply nearing the far turn and was going stoutly on the outside in the final eighth. MAPLE QUEEN was outrun. LADY DEMOCRAT, under steadying restraint while following the early pace, went to the front when called upon and, opening up a good lead, was never threatened, although ridden out smartly to the end. WISE DORA was well placed all the way and continued with good courage to the end. AURA was restrained early, was fortunate in avoiding the interference midway of the far turn and came willingly on the outside. CUSTER finished gamely through the stretch. JAMES RIVER was lightly reserved early, moved up boldly when called upon, ran up on the heels of the tiring BE THERE and had to be taken up sharply to avoid going down and was unable to recover. DISTRACT had speed from the start, was steadied along in front, was permitted to increase his lead when reaching the stretch and, hard ridden at the end, held SANCTITY safe. The latter was slow to settle into his best stride and did not start to better his position until rounding the far turn, worked his way through the field and came willingly in the stretch. THE BAILIFF was far back early and, despite closing a good gap, was unable to endanger the leaders. BABY SWEEP was prominently placed all through the first half mile, but faltered slightly in the last three-sixteenths. LEGION was well up early, but tired. Overweight Erb, 4 pounds. CRAVAT, unable to keep up during the first three-eighths, drove through on the inside when reachine the. stretch and, wearing down GRAND LIGHT, drew out in the last sixteenth. SMOKE SIGNAL, .hard ridden, was unable to reach the winner and only gained the place in the last stride. GRAND LIGHT was well placed early, took command when the early leaders began tiring but could not withstand the first two. BOW TIP forced the early pacp and tired in the last five sixteenths. PALAN, racing well, was forwardly placed from the start, was taken under steadying restraint and given. ;a breathing spell when PRINCE SADOR went to the front, rook command again before reaching the stretch and drew out as if much the best. ABADDON was unable to keep up early, came with good energy in the last quarter mile, and raced well. VIRNOCK was under steadying restraint while kept in near attendance of the pace but was unable to improve his position to any great extent when called upon and barely lasted to hold MYRON safe. The latter came willingly through the last stages. PRINCE SADOR moved up fast when reaching the back stretch, displayed good speed in the pacemaking but faltered after going three-quarters. LONE HAND, closer up than usual the early part of the trip, was unable to make up any ground in the drive. BLACK NOSE went to the front in .the rn to the first turn and, rated along under slight restraint, flattened out badly in the last three-sixteenths. BULSTRODE, reserved early, moved up gradually in the last three-eighths and finished with good courage. GARDEN MESSAGE was unable to keep up early, began improving his position in the last three-eighths, and finished Well. PAY RACK was unable to threaten the leaders. STRANGE TIMES quit badly after assuming a eood early lead. GALLANT PAT was unable to gain a prominent position. SCIVA took command at once, opened up a good lead and, steadied along in front, held on willingly to the end, although no match for the winner. HAPPY FLAG, as usual, raced far back early and closed a good gap, although unable to reach the first two. CANDIMATE never could threaten at any stage of the journey. PLAY LINE faltered in the last three-eighths. BRAVE AGNES had brief early speed. Scratched 44036 Lateral Pass, 99; 43397 Big Show, 112; 44123 Be Just, 106. Overweight Play Line, 2 pounds.
