FIXTURES WELL SUPPORTED 617 Nominations Have Been Made to Pimlico Stakes 480 Different Thoroughbreds on List. BALTIMORE, Md., April 9. 617 nominations have been made to the thirteen im-. portant stake events to be decided at the spring meeting of the" Maryland Jockey Club, at Pimlico, May 2 to 12. However, the most signficant fact gathered from a study of the nominations is that of the total number, 480 different thoroughbreds are represented, an obvious indication of a wealth of high class material for the seven races to be carded at the Baltimore race course each day. The racing colors of 130 owners are represented in the stakes eligibles, and it is a certainty that fully seventy-five per cent will be at Pimlico fcr the entire meeting while the others will ship their nominees to Pimlico to fulfill whatever engagements they may have. On the basis of these figures it is almost a foregone conclusion that no stakes field will go to the post light or shy of any of the championship aspirants for the division in which they are racing. The eastern racing season is settling down in earnest with many new stables moving into Pimlico and Havre De Grace from Florida and others coming back to the races after resting up for the winter. The barns at Pimlico are quartering approximately 400 horses and each morning sees at least thirty or forty stake candidates working out over the vastly improved Pimlico strip. Three Preakness eligibles will arrive from Florida when fourteen head from the stable of Townsend B. Martin unload at Pimlico. The Preakness candidates are Cravat, purchased by Martin at the C. V. Whitney auction sale at Pimlico last fall; Bigey, which last saw action in the North in the Pimlico Futurity last year, and which, incidentally, is a son of Victorian, the 1928 winner of the Preakness. The other Preakness candidate is Galapas, three-year-old son of Sir Gallahad III.
