ARLINGTON SIGNS EVERETT Takes Place in Stewards Stand With Maj. Louis Beard and Christopher J. FitzGerald. CHICAGO, HI., April 9. Webb Everett, racing secretary and handicapper at Santa Anita, is the only new name on the list of racing officials at Arlington Park this year, according to the announcement of Otto W. Lehmann, president of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, here today. Everett will serve as the second steward representing the association with Maj. Louis A. Beard, manager of the Whitney racing interests, who served last year. Christopher J. FitzGerald Sr. again will be the steward representing the Illinois State Racing Commission. Arthur B. Hancock, famous Kentucky breeder will be one of the honorary stewards and the vacancy left by the recent death of Adm. Cary T. Grayson will be filled within a few weeks, said Lehmann. Charles James McLennan returns as racing secretary and handicapper. The able son of the late Joseph McLennan, dean of racing officials of his day, also is secretary at Hialeah Park, Havre de Grace, Delaware Park and Pimlico. The remaining officials, who also served last year are: Placing judges, Sidney S. Brown, C. J. FitzGerald Jr., and Emmett A. Hileman; starter, Roy Dickerson; paddock judges, William Doyle and Emmett A. Hileman; clerk of scales, C. J. FitzGerald Jr.; assistant clerk of scales, Robert P. McAu-liffe; patrol judges, William Doyle, William Davis and George Swain; timer, William Cunningham. Arlingtons 1938 meeting will run thirty days from June 27 through July 30, renewing the pretentious stakes program that makes it the mid-wests most important meeting. Roy Carruthers, who served as steward at Santa Anita during the winter, has returned to Chicago and is directing the preparations for the meeting.
