LESSEN TRAINING ACTIVITIES Snow, Rain and Difficult Footing Slows Up Preparation of Derby-Candidates at Downs. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 9. Snow, rain and a tough muddy track somewhat curtailed the training activities Of Kentucky Derby eligibles at Churchill Downs Saturday morning but most of them were under saddle for light exercise nevertheless. The Milky Way Farms Mountain Ridge essayed the most ambitious trial, having been sent a lively three-quarters, but the other more important candidates, Woolford Farms Lawrin, and Myron Selznicks Cant Wait, were confined to slow gallops. Mountain Ridge, working under the direction of trainer Robert McGarvey, travelled three-quarters in 1:20 through the deep mud and he was accompanied by a stable companion, C-Note, which also has been nominated for the 0,000 race here on May 7. Mountain Ridge was under light and hand riding the last part of the trial, C-Note appearing to fancy the going more than his stablemate. Keeping on even terms through- out, the two Milky Way three-year-olds went the first quarter in :24, and the half in :52. Tiger and Cant Wait galloped about a mile and an eighth each while Lawrins effort was limited to a slow three-eighths. Three of the lesser lights among the Derby nominees travelled a full mile Saturday morning. They were the Greentree Stables Gangplank, the Sherbrook Farms Cooks Memorial and J. S. Hawkins Pepper. Gangplank breezed the eight furlongs in 1:59, Cooks Memorial acompanied by Intrip, ran the distance, also breezing in 1:57 and Pepper negotiated the mile in 1:54 handily. Farrell, another nominee from the Milky Way Farm establishment, went a handy five-eighths in 1:07 accompanied by War Bride.
