KEENELANDS PHOENIX" HANDICAP OLDEST KENTUCKY STAKE LEXINGTON, Ky., April 9. Kentuckys first stake race was the Phoenix Stakes, which was inaugurated at the old Kentucky Association race track here in 1831, five years after that plant was established. The race was renewed at almost every spring meeting ever held in Lexington, and when, the Keeneland race course began operation in 1936 the old race was given a place on the program as the Phoenix Handicap. It is a ,500 added money event, at six furlongs, I for three-year-olds and upward, and it will j be the feature race on the opening card, j The Lexington track opens Thursday, April 14,. and offers eleven days of sport. Final day at Keeneland will be Thursday, April 28
