FLITTING FENG, away fast, was steadied along while racing with MATTIE LUE, raced to the front when ready, tired in the last seventy yards and was doing her best at the end. MATTIE LUE forced the pace under pressure and made up some ground in the stretch. DUCHESS DEL, outrun, came with a rush in the last quarter and was getting to the leaders. DOWN TIMBER showed a good effort. BALKAN MAID, well up early, raced the last half mile with a loose bandage and might have been closer with better luck. OBSTINATE BOY was outrun and pulled up lame. CRUSHED ICE, under wraps the first half mile while racing with THEODORE A.,, came away when ready, bore out in the stretch and, coming again, outgamed CAGEY. The latter saved ground throughout, got to the winner a sixteenth out, then tired. BE JUST, in hand early, came to the outside on the far turn, made up ground rapidly under punishment and was getting to the leaders. NIMULE raced evenly. LUM JOY bolted on the first turn when in front and was steered to the inside thereafter. MONOLOGUE broke sluggishly and failed to extend himself. THEQDORE A. quit. ON ACCOUNT dropped back after the first quarter, came to the outside in the stretch, then tired. JIMMIE T. was outrun. NOON SUN showed high early speed, but quit. ROLL JORDAN, in hand while following JOHNNY BANE, raced CASTABOUT into defeat coming into the stretch and hung on with good courage to stall off LADY PAL. The latter saved ground the early part, came to the outside in the stretch and was getting to the loaders. BRAINCHILD, away slowly, lost some ground around the first turn, came around the field entering the stretch, but could not get to the leaders under pressure. CASTABOUT got through a narrow opening after the first quarter, took a brief lead when JOHNNY BANE dropped back, then tired in the drive. FRISCO, under restraint while m a contending position, raced SPEAR into defeat, but couldnt withstand the winner. TRANSMAC taken back after a half mile, came fast on the outside in the stretch. HURDY GURDY was well rated but failed to respond in the late stages. THREE GRAND raced well. BRINDLE was ouirun. SPEAR quit HARD CHASE lacked speed.
