CHICAGO CUTS TRAFFIC DEATHS Chicago had 123 fewer traffic deaths in the first eight months of 1938 than during the corresponding period of last year, ac-cording to the TJational Safety Council. This figure gives Chicago second place in the number of lives saved among thirty-seven cities of more than 250,000 population. First place is held by Detroit, which had 125 fewer deaths. Providence, R. I., had the best percentage record, 72 per cent fewer fatal traffic accidents. Chicago was twenty-first in this ranking, with 23 per cent fewer deaths. I In all thirty-seven cities there were 824 fewer i traffic deaths.
