1 FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES f s e Joekey Willie Duffy put in an appearance having come in from Narragansett. Duffy,,; who spent much of last winters meeting, in the hospital, recovering from injuries sus- tained in a fall in New England, will ride free lance this season. Elton "Bud" Tiller picked up three year-, lings, all home-breds by the stallion Terminus, at Dr. J. A. Blacandwells farm at Cooper, Texas. The older horses Tiller has here are Ragacreek, owned by Mrs. Tiller, and Never Blue and Sayloma, the property of Dr. BlackwelL Jockey Andy Clutter left for Tropical Park, where he will be affiliated with a prominent stable. The horses which L. J. Killion registered were Ethels Choice, Rettef , Lucky Star and, Blue Trace. The horses last were campaigned at River Downs. Terry Farley, custodian of the jockey quarters at the Fair Grounds, said that he already has issued badges to eighty apprentices and older riders. Jerry McCarthy,- Detroit broker and turf patron, will be represented by ten horses here this winter. Recent arrivals from Narragansett, the racers are Lady Patrol, Loyal Cohort, OBantam, Old Main Road, Grace Grier, Fumble, Old Mexico, OShirl, Just an Idea and Shotty. E. T. Miller is trainer of the establishment. In a private transaction at the Fair Grounds, J. G. Angner, acting f or L. M. Biggs, purchased Rustic Joe fl-m F. Thompson. Angner will train the plater. Jockey Jimmy Haritos, who rode with a good measure of success in Canada during the summer, arrived here and reported to Arthur Gaignard, Sr., for whom he will ride this winter. Apprentice Euclid Le Blanc wired his brother Norman Le Blanc, former jockey and now trainer, that he would be here Thursday night from Bowie. Howard S. Parks, former owner and trainer, came here from his home in Dallas for the opening. He will remain several days. Because of the condition of the track," schooling" of horses was suspended Thursday morning by starter Johnny Morrissey, but will be resumed as the racing strip invoroves. Miss L. C. Whites gray Buster Boy, a . familiar performer here last winter, has fully recovered from the fever he contracted en route here from Narragansett Park and is ready to resume training: Jockeys Charles Swain and Jack Mayer, accompanied by Robert Noel and Brownie Fowler, are to leave here Friday for Miami by motor. Dave Herzog registered two three-year-olds Fighting D. and Modern Boy which he brought here from Chicago. Eugene Schwartz, who arrived here several days ago, is back at his job as identification man and timer at the Fair Grounds. C. M. Brown, who has been at Henderson, Ky., visiting- relatives, arrived here Wednesday. John B. Thorwald, radio station owner of Dallas, Texas, came in from the Lone Star State for the opening of the New Orleans racing season and will return to his home Friday. The horses that J. R. "Red"" Gregory brought in from Narragansett Park and registered with racing secretary R. A. Leigh included Dead Calm, Night Mist, Fore, Catchall, Pomplit, Ottoman, Lady Federal, Petard, Black Rhapsody and Lostagal.
