PLAN MEETING AT SYRACUSE William Du Pont Interests Himself in Building of Steeplechase Course Beck Organizing Syndicate. SYRACUSE, N. Y., Nov. 24 Racing on a more ambitious scale and featuring steeple-chasing is planned at the local Fair Grounds course next year. J. Norman Beck is organizing a syndicate to take over the course and conduct a nineteen-day meeting in July. It is proposed to include one jumping event daily. William A. du Pont, one of the leading horsemen of the country, was a visitor here recently. With Harry Ehle, superintendent of the local Fair Grounds, he inspected and approved the new steeplechase course being built. Du Pont expressed himself as well pleased with the work already completed here and 1 he will return to supervise and direct the ! construction of eight jumps. Erection of the eight jumps will complete the work on the new course until it is seeded next spring. A force of 200 W. P. A. workers has been working since September 12 on the 5 project, and among the accomplishments has 1 been the building of two artificial lagoons ; in the centerfield, one of which is 550 feet long and 225 feet wide. Most of the hedges have already been 1 planted and the course has been landscaped. The main mile track also has been resurfaced and 8,800 cubic yards of top soil has been added.
