PHOENIX INAUGURAL FEB. 15 Fifteen or More Days Scheduled at Arizona Course Las Vegas Meeting Doing Well. LAS VEGAS, Nev., Nov, 30. The annual winter race meeting at Phoenix, Ariz., will get under way February 15 and operate for fifteen or more days, according to announcement made here today by J. K. Houssels, president and general manager of the up and coming race track at the Arizona State Fair Grounds. Houssels, who operated the track at the Arizona capital city last winter, the first ever held at the new ?2,000,000 fair and racing grounds, did such a good job of it that the horsemen and business and political leaders of Phoenix now are behind him 100 percent, it is said. No dearth of horses is expected. The meeting now in progress at Las Vegas is going great guns, with more than a sufficient supply of horses. Many important stables which passed up the Phoenix meeting last winter in the mistaken belief that it would amount to little, now have signified their intention of taking part in the sport this winter. The racing strip now is being worked over, and Houssels says that it will be ready for horses to train over it and the barns ready to receive horses commencing December 17.
