ZACABOX, never a great distance back and raced wide throughout, responded to vigorous urging after reaching the final quarter, took command in the last sixteenth and, holding on well, withstood the challenge of JAY D. BANE. The latter, away fast but unable to keep up and slow to rally to punishment, lost ground " throughout and, coming with a good belated burst of speed in the last eighth, was wearing down the winner. SHERRY B. was badly outrun from the start, did not respond to brisk pressure on the turn, but rallied boldly in the late stages and finished strongest. ROIDEF raced prominently and on the inside from the start, increased his advantage when straight in the stretch, but tired in the last eighth. MAEWHISK, reserved off the pace, made a determined bid when racing on the outside in the stretch, but faltered in the closing stages. PLUCKY BYRD had speed from the start, was inclined to bear to the inside and began to tire after a half mile. TRA-LA-LA failed to keep up.
