FOUR SCURLOCKS IN ACTION Two of Family Riding at Fair Grounds Youngest Scurlock Rated Brilliant Prospect. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 3 One of the largest families of jockeys at present engaged in sporting silks at the various tracks of the country are the Scurlocks, who hail from Lexington, Ky., and numbers four active reinsmen at the present time, two of whom are in the riding colony at the Fair Grounds. The quartet of Scurlocks, in the order of their ages and years of saddle experience, are James, Harry, Donald and Ova. The last named was the latest to embark on a riding career and is under contract to R. C. Gillem. Ova Scurlock began his riding career at Fairmount Park in the early fall and booted home the initial winner of his career astride Twinkle Feet on October 3, 1938. Since that time the youngster has added three more scores to his credit for a total of four triumphs to date. The youngest of the riding Scurlocks is rated as an excellent prospect by turfmen who have watched him in action from the beginning of his riding career and are predicting a bright future in the saddle for him. Ova, who followed in the footsteps of his three older brothers, had considerable experience with horses in addition to the pointers that his brothers provided. Ova had been exercising horses for two years for Gillem before he was given an opportunity to ride in a race and therefore had ample time in which, to leain much about the handling of thoroughbreds. This youngster is one of the large gathering of apprentices in the Crescent City this winter, but bids fair to hold his own with the best of the crop.
