P.J. HOLMES WARNS HORSEMEN Must Have Oaklawn Stable Reserva. tions Okayed Before Shipping. Track Not Available for Training Purposes Until January 1 Meeting Slated to Open February 27. HOT SPRINGS, Ark., Dec. 3. A stern i warning to horsemen not to ship to Oaklawn Park until they have written confirmation j that applications for stall space have been approved, . was issued today by P. J. Holmes, general manager of the jockey club. Holmes said that many owners are laboring j under the misapprehension that making application for stall space entitles them to ship here at once. He pointed out that several horsemen already have shipped here s and as a result have had to obtain space outside . the confines of the jockey club. The track will not be open to horses until December i 15. "I want to stress to owners the futility of their shipping until they have been advised j in writing that their applications have been . approved by Eugene Bury, the racing secretary," , said Holmes. "Owners ship without , confirmation of their requests and are forced 1 to seek stable space in and around the city. . The stables outside our jurisdiction are 3 rented at enormous prices. Oaklawn is not associated . with the operators of these stables. Yet horse owners complain to us when they are forced to pay prohibitive rentals." The answer is, "Dont ship to Hot Springs until notified Holmes again pointed out that the Oaklawn meeting does not begin until February 27 and that the track will not be available . for training purposes until January 1.
