j 1 j j ! , , ! j j I ; j I 1 j I MEREWORTH PURSE IS TEST Three Kentucky Derby Candidates Are Among Probable Starters in Todays Keeneland Headliner. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 19. Blue Grass Stakes and Kentucky Derby eligibles will get another test in the Mereworth Purse, to be offered as the feature of the program at Keeneland Park tomorrow. Among the small field of five named to run one and one-six- teenth miles, are three Kentucky Derby can- didates, and two eligibles to the Blue Grass Stakes. Although the field is made up of only four interests, the Keeneland management has a policy of giving every opportunity to Blue Grass Stakes and Kentucky Derby candidates. A small field contested the Mereworth Purse last yea,r and Bull Lea was the winner over Menow. The Greentree Stable will be represented by Roll and Toss and Third Degree. It will be Third Degrees first essay of the year, French Lick Springs Stables Yale o Nine, which raced in California, will make his local seasons bow and the others in the small field are Old Joe and Miss Sarah. Third Degree has been training in fine style and. like Roll and Toss, a winner here on opening day, and Yale o Nine, will tote 116 pounds. Miss Sarah and Old Joe will carry 105 pounds each. Six other attractive races and a substitute to be used in the event one of the original numbers is discarded, make up the program. The track was nearing its best condition: today and, in the event the cloudy skies do not produce rain, the racing strip will be fast.
