THIRTY-NINE , ELIGIBLE FOR PREAKNESS STAKES A 2t - Best Three -Year -Olds Named for Rich Pimlico Special Challedon, Gilded Knight, Johnstown, Porters Mite, El Chico, Technician, Day Off, Volitant, Impound, Hash, Viscounty and Others Among Nominees BALTIMORE, Md., April 19. Thirty-nine of the finest three-year-olds in training are eligible for the Preakness Stakes, to be run at Pimlico on May 13. The number of candidates reached this total last Saturday with the closing of the supplementary entries, and an eligibility payment for those originally nominated. The list of eligibles represents thoroughbreds from twenty-seven different stables, and it appears that every likely candidate for three-year-old honors is pointing for the Preakness. Included among the outstanding nominees are W. L. Branns Challedon, Wheatley Stables Gilded Knight, Belair Studs Johnstown, W. E. Boeings Porters Mite, Saratoga Stables Volitant, Win. Zieglers El Chico, Wool- lord. Farm s Technician, Greentree Stables Day Off, Geo. D. Wideners Eight Thirty, Alfred G. Vanderbilts Impound, and the lone filly, Ciencia, owned by the King Ranch of Texas. Among the Preakness eligibles expected to be seen under colors this week-end in the important Chesapeake Stakes at Havre de Grace are: Challedon, Impound, Gilded Knight, Volitant and Eight Thirty, with the possibility of one or two more appearing in Saturdays entries. NOT ELIGIBLE FOR DERBY. Should Gilded Knight, Volitant or Eight Thirty triumph in the Chesapeake Stakes, they will not be seen under colors until the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, as they are not eligible for the Derby.
