TECHNICIAN IN MILE WORKOUT Son of Insco Continues to Train in Splendid Fashion Timed in 1:48 Over Good Track. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 19. Herbert M. Woolfs Technician, whose splendid training continued to gain him favor as a strong .contender for the Kentucky Derby, turned in another useful mile workout over the Churchill Downs course here this morning. The Kansas City-owned son of Insco, whose position as a Derby threat was established when he scored in the Flamingo Stakes at Hialeah Park, traversed the eight furlongs of this mornings trial on a good track in 1:48. The handy manner in which he accomplished his task furfcher emphasized his excellent condition. Other Derby eligibles seen in training moves this morning were Mrs. Bessie Franz-heims Xalapa Clown, Junius W. Bells Steel Heels, W. H. Whitehouses American Byrd, John Marschs Lightspur, Brown and Fetters Tack Point, Mrs. Kate Weils Sleepy Tom, and Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Magic Key. Xalapa Clown, another of the more prominent Derby horses now on the scene of the race, was breezed only three furlongs in company with Gay Troubadour, but trainer A. C. Dettwiler said the Eternal colt would be sent farther tomorrow. Xalapa Clowns time for the three-eighths was :37 and he was only breezing. Steel Heels was sent a mile, which he accomplished in handy style in 1:44; American Byrd traveled three-quarters in 1:15, Sleepy Tom went seven furlongs in 1:32, and Tack Point and Lightspur "blew out" a quarter mile in preparation for something more exacting tomorrow. Magic Key went a leisurely three-quarters in 1:22. Technician, in his impressive trial, covered the first quarter in :24, the half mile in :50 and three-quarters in 1:16 and was under a snug hold all the way, while Steel Heels fractional time was :2G for the first quarter, :51 for the half mile and 1:17 for the six furlongs. The Bell horse also worked handily.
