THE FLOWER, outrun a trifle in the early stages, came fast to find an opening between horses entering the stretch and, getting to the front at mid-stretch, drew out easily in the last eighth. BORN BLACK came through next to the rail in the first quarter to take a short lead and, while no match for the winner, finished fairly well. MERRY BREEZES was close up throughout and saved ground where possible. EMPRESS HILLS finished gamely. IRON MOUNTAIN tired as if short. PETER F. was outrun. ROTHBURY tired in the drive. COHIGH, close up from the start, responded gamely to urging in the stretch and, overtaking TRUELY FLO in the last eighth, won under urging. ZADRA, outrun early, bore out badly while making a strong run through the stretch and seriously interfered with BOSCA, for which he was disqualified and placed third. The latter, away slowly, closed a big gap and might have won but for being forced to the extreme outside in the last eighth. TRUELY FLO tired in the stretch. BALLAD bore out on the stretch turn and tired badly in the stretch. CYNIC QUEEN, although making up some ground, was never dangerous. YOUNG WARD broke down after going a short distance. DENBIGH was close up from the start and raced wide in the stretch, but held the others safe. SHORTBREAD was in close quarters in the early stages. The others were outpaced. The latter took a good early lead and was taken in hand, then moved away slightly on the stretch turn, but swerved and was unable to hold the winner. SEXTUS closed gamely on the outside.
