WAPELLO IN FIRST WORK OVER A REGULATION RACE COURSE LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 19. H. S. Chittendens Wapello, the country horse which came here some weeks ago right off a farm in Iowa, and until his condition was known was whispered about as a Derby dark horse, breezed for the first time in his life on a regulation track at Churchill Downs Tuesday morning. Wapello, a son of Impropriety and Easter Mary, was bred and raised primarily for a pet, but when his looks so impressed his owner it was decided to test his speed, a sample of which prompted his shipment to the Downs. Upon arriving here, Wapello was turned over to Chuck Walker, veteran negro, who was connected with the stable of the late John E. Madden for many years. Walker breezed Wapello a quarter-mile and after watching him in the work said that he had an even chance to develop into a useful race horse.
