T. Grayson. WENT TO POST— 2:18. AT POST— 2 minutes. Start good and slow. Won ridden out; second and third driving. GALA QUEST, unruly at the post, was away well, moved up on the outside of the leaders to take command nearing the stretch and drew out while kept under a brisk hand ride to the finish. CHIEF COUNSEL, quickest to begin, met determined opposition from ARIEL STAR during the first three-eighths, was unable to go along with the leader through the stretch run, but held on determinedly. BRAVE LIGHT, unable to reach the leaders during the first three-eighths, came wide at the final turn and closed with good speed. ARIEL STAR, prominent from the start, moved up to dispute the lead with CHIEF COUNSEL, showed in front briefly, but began swerving during the last eighth while tiring. SUN PHAROS raced to the leaders with a rush in the opening eighth, gained clear sailing on the inside, responded gamely to punishment through the stretch and was along in the last strides on the inside of PRINCE WAYGO. The latter crossed over sharply at the turn from the back stretch, pinched back ABBASSIDE and UNCLE WALTER when moving to the front, drew clear, but began bearing out in the last seventy yards. ABBASSIDE raced to the front at once, was forced to take up when shut off rounding the far turn, recovered gamely and finished with good courage. CHIN MUSIC moved up stoutly on the outside during the early running, but was unable to keep pace. UNCLE WALTER was racing prominently when impeded sharply and was unable to recover thereafter. ■■ THE "DAILY DOUBLE" ON FIRST AND SECOND RACES PAID .80 FOR . PANDONNA raced to the front at once, withstood determined opposition from GOLDMAN all through the back stretch, disposed of him, drew clear and, under punishment through the last eighth, held DINNER JACKET safe. The latter, slow to begin and outrun for the first three-eighths, worked his way up steadily and came with a rush in the stretch run. JANE VITO made several attempts to reach the leader on the turn, but was not good enough, although holding on stoutly to the closing stages. CARNARVON was slightly reserved while within striking distance of the pace and was taken back repeatedly midway of the turn when caueht in close quarters. He was unable to better his position when straightened out in the stretch. NIPANTUCK was unable to close any ground when called upon. CHANCER raced wide all the way. GOLDMAN quit. HOISEVNORK, impeded in the opening eighth, was taken up and sent up on the outside, wore down CONSTITUTIONAL when swinging from the back stretch, raced into a good lead and was never seriously threatened, although ridden out smartly to the close. SECOND HEAVEN trailed her field from the back stretch, was "brought to the outside for the closing test and finished with a belated bid. OPEN GATE dropped back when rounding the far turn, but finished willingly in the stretch. SUNABELL was unable to enter into serious contention. MODERN YOUTH was never a factor. CONSTITUTIONAL displayed good I speed from the start, faltering steadily after the first three-eighths. Scratched— 75719:iBaize, 102. MANY STINGS, slightly restrained while in the thick of contention from the outset, responded gamely f when placed under pressure in the stretch and wore down the leaders to draw out in the last sixteenth. SLOW MOTION, reserved until rounding from the back stretch, moved up steadily when called upon and, while unable to go along with the winner, outlasted INFIDOX at the end. A claim of foul against the winner r was not allowed. INFIDOX displayed speed from the start, shook off UNASSISTED in the first three-eighths and, while making a determined bid to maintain his advantage in the stretch, was not good I enough. SlN INPLAY was unable to keep up after racing well placed until the last five-sixteenths. UNASSISTED tired steadily after losing command. The others were outrun. SIXTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. POST OFFICE moved up willingly approaching the far turn and id continued gamely to the close, although unable to make up an appreciable amount of ground through the stretch. AMPLE, restrained until the last three-eighths, moved up briefly after reaching the stretch, but it was unable to close any ground through the last eighth.
