MARCH STEP attained a clear lead early, set the pace under mild reserve, rallied to strong riding and outfinished OUT OF STEP. The latter, forced to race wide while bettering his position, closed with good determination and was wearing down the winner. ODD NUMBER, on the inside most of the way, finished with good courage, but was no threat. CORNELIA POWELL tired in the stretch. LEATHER GOODS, away in stride, failed to keep up. STAR ROYAL moved up stoutly approaching the stretch, responded to strong riding, took command, then held sway to the end. COLOR MISS, close to the pace throughout, offered good contention, but was not good enough. MARY VAN TRUMP, slow to settle into stride, closed resolutely under punishment and was gaining on the first two. CHIEFS with SCOUT, prominent throughout, held on good courage in the final stages. VAN LAW, forced to race wide most of the way, failed to be dangerous under pressure. CLIENTELLE had no excuse PRINCE WESTEND, away in stride and in close quarters early, reached contention when clear, but faltered in the final stages. IRENE ROSS quit. PICKARD had early speed. The latter gained rapidly after three-eighths and closed gamely, but could not menace the winner. FOUR P. VIOLET attained a commanding lead early, but tired as if in need of the race. SECTION MAN began slowlv and closed with good determination, but was no serious threat. MISS VESTA had no excuse. BROWN CODY could not keep up. SETHS WARRIOR raced wide and was outrun.
