EXPECT LARGE LIST OF ENTRIES Latonia Stakes Close Thursday and Fine Response in Nominations Seems Assured. LATONIA, Ky., June 13.— In the interests of stakes to be run during Latonias twenty-seven-day summer meeting, opening June 29, the track has personal emissaries at various tracks accepting nominations, and by the time they close Thursday the names of many well-known horses are expected to be found among the lists of entries. Latonia has personal representatives at Lincoln Fields in Chicago, the Detroit Fair Grounds and Clevelands North Randall, and stake blanks have been sent to various other racing centers throughout the country. Nominations already have been received in gratifying numbers to suggest that all of the six features already announced will be liberally supported. Five of the stakes carry ,500 in added money, with the remaining one to be endowed with ,000. A seventh feature is yet to be announced and it is to headline the final program on July 29. The local track will draw horses from Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit, principally, but stable reservations also have been received from New England and Charles Town and Fairmount Park, while a number of racing establishments remained in Kentucky following the Churchill Downs season, to await the opening of Latonia. Stakes to be run during the twenty-seven days are the Inaugural Handicap, Independence Handicap, Charity Day Handicap, Cincinnati Trophy, Quickstep Handicap and Enquirer Handicap. They will be contested at distances from five and one-half furlongs to a mile and one furlong, and all except the Trophy — an event for juveniles— are for three-year-olds and older horses. Plans for the meeting are going forward apace with the work on improvements to the plant, which is well under way.
