SECOND BIG DAY AT ASCOT Another 00,000 in Stake Events S to Be Distributed in Seven Races. |30,000 Coronation Stakes for Three-Year-Old I C Fillies Most Valuable — Royal Hunt Cup Most Interesting. ASCOT, England, June 13.— Another 00,-000 in purses and trophies will be distributed I ■ in the seven races on the program for to- i j I rf morrow, second day of racing on the Royal j | v Berkshire Heath. Most valuable of these i j g races is the Coronation Stakes, which grosses 5 ! ; * , | approximately 0,000. This is a test for J ! S. g three-year-old fillies, run over the old mile 1 ! s course. c The One Thousand Guineas and Oaks winner, Galatea II., despite having to carry the i r heavy burden of 136 pounds and give away , t much weight to her rivals, probably will be 2 ■ j I saddled here. This fixture has not been i ! ; c a happy hunting ground for Guineas and I ! j r Oaks winners as indicated by the defeat last t i j t year of that grand filly, Rockfel, and previ- - I c ous failures of filly classic winners. How- -1 a ever, the American sportsman, Robert S. !. j j Clark, owns a particularly smart filly in i f Galatea II., especialy at the distance of f j t tomorrows race. Clark is the first Ameri- - j r. can ever to win both the One Thousand i , ] Guineas and the Oaks. Possibly the most interesting race on the ■ , £ program tomorrow is the time-honored hand- . i * icap, the Royal Hunt Cup, which dates back t to 1843, when the five-year-old Knight of the e Thistle won from twenty-three rivals. This S ■ . contest, run over the straight seven furlongs s ; I . and 155 yards course, ranks second only to °. ; the Cambridgeshire Stakes Handicap at : ; . Newmarket in the fall as a medium for r | . heavy wagering. , BETTING COUP IN 1909. i ] A big betting coup marked the Royal Hunt j l . Cup in 1909 when Dark Ronald, the Irish- l" ! | J bred four-year-old, scored over twenty-two . O | ! rivals. He was then owned by the South I African sportsman, Sir Abe Bailey, who can a i j select from a keen trio tomorrow in Golden ™ ; j J Sovereign, 128 pounds ; Caerloptic, 124 pounds, 3, | . and Helzephron, 118 pounds. The first ;t ;; named two are trained by Harry Cottrill, at * Lambourn, while Helzephron is the sole entry L" of the Manton trainer, "Joe" Lawson, in n this race. The last named horse was a a mighty smart performer last year when, over ,r this course and distance, he was the runner-up to St. Magnus in the Queen Anne Stakes. 3- Joseph E. Wideners Unbreakable, 133 3 pounds, the top weight of the handicap and d winner of the Victoria Cup Handicap this s spring, is expected to await another engagement !- at this meeting. A. K. Macombers s Khasnadar, 132 pounds, the runner-up to ° Helleniqua in last seasons Cambridgeshire, 2, may find his weight a little prohibitive. 2. Since this race was instituted in 1843, only y five horses have won it with 126 pounds or * more in the saddle. Last years winner, owner-trainer H. G. J. Blagraves Convert, 123 pounds, and the then n runner-up, C. Jarvis Galsonia, 109 pounds, s, are again eligibles. There is an eight-pound weight pull in favor of the last named horse le for a half-length beating. This allowance :e i j should turn the scale in favor of Galsonia a J in this 7,500 event. WELL REGARDED CANDIDATES. J. P. Homings Pegasus, 126 pounds, runner-up v to Unbreakable in the Victoria Cup p Handicap, and Mrs. Bendirs Quartier Maitre, e 109 pounds, are other candidates, as well as tg the winner of the Lincolnshire Handicap, p S. H. Oxenhams Squadron Castle, 108 jg I pounds, cannot be entirely left out of the pic- c. ture. Sir Charles Hydes Suez, 102 pounds, s | 1 may prove the best of the light weights in a a highly interesting and well-compiled handicap. «, Other well-endowed purses on tomorrows s program include the ,500 Churchill Stakes, s- a two-mile test, for four-year-olds. The one ie mile and a half King Edward VII. Stakes, s with 5,000, for three-year-olds, is a race :e I likely to attract the Chester Vase winner -r ! j and Derby Third, Lord Derbys Heliopolis. s. j There is another contest over the one mile and a half journey, the Brosborough Stakes B | Handicap, which will gross in excess of 0,000. Chief portion of this purse may go jo to Lord Milfords Fly On, 119 pounds, runner-up to Maranta for the Manchester Cup [p* Handicap last Friday. He may have most to L° fear from last years winner of this race, the Irish-trained invader, Sir Percy Lorraines r" Spot Barred, 103 pounds. The Chesham Stakes, grossing 3,000, a a five-furlong test for two-year-olds and over sr the same distance, the Fernhill Stakes, of °* ,000, for two- and three-year-olds, completes es the card. The latter race may bring the three-year-old champion sprinters, Mrs. * I ! James Corrigans Panorama and Philip *P Dunnes Portobello, to battle again.
