PAY CHECK raced into command on the inside, was taken out gradually while racing under a steady hold on the turn, continued well to the final eighth in the stretch, then tired but outstayed GRAY ETHEL. ,The latter, always closest in pursuit and kept in hand for a half mile, came to the outside in the stretch and also tired in the drive, but was slowly wearing down the winner. OVERPLAY, away fast, but unable to keep up, swerved badly while closing well under pressure. GOLD STEP quit badly in the last eighth. FAIRY HALL pulled up sore. Scratched— 75820 Paulson, 110. SIR AJAX. well up from the s*art and raced wide after the first quarter, responded to brisk pressure after reaching the stretch and, wearing down the leaders, won drawing clear. HONEY ROLL, rated under snug restraint for a half mile, took command gradually and held on well, but was not good enough. BEREIT, steadied when outrun and on the inside for a half mile, swung wide entering the stretch, then closed well under mild pressure and wore down TOMYE in the last few strides. TOMYE showed the most speed from the start, swerved to the inside when tiring in the drive and gnve way badly in the late stages. BLACK PETER began slowly and raced sluggishly to the last three-sixteenths, where he closed some ground. FLUKE, outrun from the start, was on the inside in the stretch and showed a poor effort. SPORTS WRITER, away fast and always clear, was taken out before reaching the turn, rallied strongly In the stretch and came away fast in the last eighth. ALLDENA, away slowly and steadied when outrun, swung to the outside approaching the stretch, closed with good belated speed under strong handling and was racing well at the end. SLAVIC, away slowly, started to move up when racing on the inside on the turn, continued boldly through the final quarter and headed ON QUEST in the last stride. ON QUEST, a strong factor from the start, was under brisk pressure after a half mile and was faltering when he met with light interference in the last eighth. FLORENCE M. was taken up sharply when in close quarters leaving the back stretch. BARKER delayed the start. EL JUEZ quit after showing speed to the last three-sixteenths. Scratched— 73277 Ovid, 115. BOY BABY, fractious at the post, but away fast and rushed into command, was kept under hustling tactics as he gradually increased his advantage, tired in the last eighth, but held HLRRIGAL safe. The latter, under light restraint early and raced wide throughout, held on well and was slowly getting to the winner. LAMBETH, away fast, dropped back sharply as she stumbled soon after reaching the turn and continued badly off stride to the final eighth, where she closed ground. CRUSHED was on the inside and showed a fair effort. DAY-GO-BYE, taken back early and again on the turn, where he attempted to bear out, had no chance thereafter. SOUVENIR lost much ground and tired in the late stages. SOME POLLY, also rank at the post, had speed, but quit in the last three sixteenths. REX EQUINUS, never a great distance back and forced to overcome a big loss of ground, worked his way up gradually after three-eighths, swerved badly after getting to the front, but drew out in the last sixteenth. MEMORY CHAIR failed to keep up on the turn, closed well through the stretch and wore down GEORGE BRYAN in the final strides. The latter had speed from the start, raced into the lead on the inside on the stretch turn, bore out the entire final quarter, then tired in the late stages and was disqualified for fouling. GLORIA G., away poorly and badly outrun for almost five-eighths, came with determination on the inside thereafter. MOSS GAL worked her way up gradually, swung to the extreme outside in the stretch and was tiring when she met light interference entering the last eighth. CHARMING SIR also met interference when tiring in the drive. ETERNAL WAVE and SEYMOUR W. also started poorly. Overweight — Memory Chair, 1 pound. ■» SIXTH. FENG, racing in good form and away fast, forced the pace under steady reserve to the stretch, worked his way to the front under strong handling, but could not draw away. BUSY LUTRECIA displayed the most speed from the start, lost command when she swerved to avoid a damp spot in the track approaching the final eighth, but recovered quickly and held on stubbornly to the end. GOOD ACTOR raced proii.inently from the start, saved some ground and fought it out with good courage in the drive. SKY WIND, also a factor from the start, held on courageously under light pressure in the entire final quarter. DELTA DAN raced wide and could not improve his position. WENT TO POST— 5:16. AT POST— 1 minute. Start good and slow for all but Sam Alexander. Won driving; second and third the same. CARDIBRE raced well in hand to the final quarter, held on well under vigorous riding thereafter and got up in the last stride. AMERICAN EMBLEM raced into the lead gradually and, under restraint, held sway without need of strong urging to the last eighth, then tired, but barely failed to last. SILVER KIEV, reserved off the pace and raced very wide in the final half mile, offered only a mild bid when called upon in the stretch, then gave way steadiiy in the last eighth. IMPERIAL JEAN failed to stay when placed to a light drive in the stretch. PENRILL had no excuse. WHIPSTITCH was in the worst going much of the race and lacked usual late rally. SAM ALEXANDER wheeled at the start, unseating his rider. Apprentice allowance waived — Whipstitch. Lexbrook Stable claimed Silver Kiev for ,250. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. QUEENIE made the pace under good rating, drew out on the final turn, stood a drive gamely and, shaking off MASKILLO, held TRISTRAP safe. TRISTRAP, well placed from the start but raced very wide to the final eighth, was under pressure after reaching the last three-eighths, swerved to the inside in the last sixteenth and, holding on well, was slowly getting to the winner. REELAWAY, well up in the early racing, failed to hold his position on the stretch turn, but came again when straightened in the final quarter. MASKILLO, taken back repeatedly for three-quarters, during which time he raced on the inside, made a bid under light pressure in the stretch, but tired in the final eighth. DORMIDO began very slowly.
