Mantagna and The Lake Delay Start of Feature— Peters Takes Afternoons Saddle Honors. STANTON, Del., June 13.— Over a racing strip left in muddy condition from heavy showers that fell intermittently during the better part of the racing program, Louise J. Hickmans five-year-old gelding, Tyr, marked up his second victory in six starts this season when he captured the sixth and best offering on a card marked by the frequent failures of favorites at Delaware Park today. In a driving finish he got to the end of a mile and one-sixteenth only a head in advance of D. J. Sullivans stretch-running Lourdes, as they drew away a length and one-half before Hit and Run from the M. J. Reed barn, which led Red Glare and five others. Unplaced in his only other start over the local grounds, the score of the five-year-old Mars gelding was achieved in one of the most exciting finishes of the afternoon, and his success added to the rout of favorites when he ruled second choice in the specu-ie lation. ,000 PLATERS. In the best race that saw the starters vie-n ing for honors under claiming tags of ,000, some delay was had at the start through the fractiousness of Mantagna and The Lake. With the ring of the bell Tyr left on the front end, but he was soon over-r, hauled when The Lake, Red Glare and Dark Sun sped into the leading positions and in that order. Racing under light restraint, Tyr went along in fourth position and near the turn out of the back stretch was sent up on the inside to engage the leaders. His position appeared dangerous when he neared the turn but jockey W. Dufford guided his mount through and midway on the turn he led by a head. Taken out into better footing when reaching the front stretch, the L. J. Hickman gelding gained a clear lead for the first time but in the last eighth was pressed to the limit to meet the final rush of Lourdes. The favorite, Red Glare, had no excuse. With conditions the worst of the current meeting, a small crowd watched the all- claiming program that was furnished.
