V RYE GRASS DEFEATS MILIUS Bain Campaigner Romps to Handy Triumph in Dufferin Purse at Long Branch Course. TORONTO, Ont., June 13.— Rye Grass, three-year-old Haytime II. — Jean ODoon gelding racing for H. R. Bain, romped to a handy triumph in the running of the Dufferin Purse, principal attraction of the semifinal days racing of the spring meeting of the Long Branch Jockey Club. Milius, from the Medway Stable, was in second place, two lengths back, at the end of the six furlongs. H. Giddings Sea General, which was making his second stajt since being runner-up to Archworth in the Kings Plate, was in third position, a length and one-half off, and three and one-half lengths in advance of D. Gar-ritys recently-acquired Donedna. The three-quarters test under allowance conditions brought seven better-grade homebred three-year-olds to the post. A large crowd was on hand for the sixth days sport, which was held under cloudy skies and over a lightning-fast racing strip. There was a delay of five minutes at the start when Donedna, Sea General and Syngo Bay wexe on their bad behavior. Donedna was sent to the outside of the stall gate by starter Rowe. They were, however, sent away in good order. Sea Cadet was the fleetest from the start and went into a short lead. At the half-mile ground Sea Cadet held a half length lead, while Sea General raced on the outside a head in advance of Milius, while Rye Grass was another head back and a half length before Donedna. As they made the turn Sea Cadet took a length lead, while Sea General raced a half length before Milius, which continued to save ground on the inside, and Rye Grass, which moved up on the outside. When they turned into the stretch Sea Cadet was through and Young sent Rye Grass to the front. After a brief duel with Sea General and Milius, he drew clear and continued to increase the lead to the finish. Milius, which had saved ground throughout, outfinished Sea General and drew clear of him inside the final sixteenth. Sea General, though tiring, was well in advance of Donedna.
