Special Cablegram. ASCOT, England, June 15.— Lord Milfords Flyon, an outsider, 100 to 6, won the classic 7,5C0 Ascot Gold Cup and a trophy valued at ,500 over the two and a half mile course here today. Of all Ascots twenty-eight stakes this is the most prized. Ridden by Ephraim Smith, who has won so many important races this season, Flyon completed the long journey five lengths in front of Maranta, a 20-to-l shot. The latter races for Sir Abe Bailey, legless South African sports-s man, whose keenest interest in life is the turf. Third in the field of nine starters was the favorite, James V. Ranks Scottish Union, at 13 to 8. TOO MUCH DISTANCE. Scottish Union, which won the St. Leger Stakes last year and recently captured the Coronation Cup at Epsom, was close up in the early stages, but found the distance beyond his compass. Sir Thomas Dixons Owenstown was fourth. Flyon completed the course in 4:2815, much slower than sev-f eral recent runnings. The victor came up on the outside in the long pull up hill and drew away rapidly. Maranta did not overhaul Scottish Union until near the line, but he passed him so rapidly he took the place by three lengths. Flyon is a four-year-old chestnut colt by Flamingo — Acquit. Last season while racing for Sir Lawrence Phillips he won five of his nine starts. Among his triumphs were the Liverpool St. Leger and Newmarket St. Leger, each at one mile and six furlongs. He was acquired by his present owner at private sale during the winter. His score today more than wiped out the sting of defeat ad-v ministered by Maranta, which led him home at Manchester. On that occasion, Maranta was in receipt of seven pounds. Todays event was at scale weight. The failure of the champion mare Rockfel to go to the starting post was a disappoint-r- ment. Heroine of the 1S£8 Guineas and j Oaks was accorded a royal chance of victory. -
