TRIAL GALLOPS FOR STAKES Silverette Easily Outworks Companion in Preparation for Calumet Handicap at Lincoln Fields. CRETE, 111., June 15.— Additional candidates for Saturdays dual features, the Calumet and the Marquette Handicaps, were seen in training moves on a good track at Lincoln Fields this morning. The Calumet is a sprint of six furlongs, and the Marquette, a run of a mile and a furlong. Standing out among those which worked for the Calumet was Garrett Watts Silverette, winner of the Crete Handicap, in her only start of the current meeting. This veteran daughter of Vandergrift was sent five furlongs and she accomplished her task in 1:04, breezing all the way. Sir L. accompanied her, but in spite of being pressed, he was no match for his more illustrious stable companion. Woolford Farms Joe Schenck and the Shandon Farms Syracuse were worked a half-mile each, and both of them were only breezing in their moves. Joe Schenck rattled off the distance in :54, while Syracuse shaded that effort by three seconds. WORK THREE-EIGHTHS. The Milky Way Farms Tiger and No Competition breezed three furlongs each in preparation for the same race. Tigers time was :37»i and No Competitions :38. Friedberg and Axtons Manie OHara, winner of the Kankakee and the Steger Handicaps, is eligible for both of Saturdays ,500 added stakes, and in preparation for one of them, she breezed a half-mile in :51%. Other nominees for the Marquette, seen in private trials this morning, were C. E. Davisons Chance Ray, Woolford Farms Robert L. and Shandon Farms Burning Star. Chance Ray, going along handily, covered three-quarters in 1:16, while Burning Star breezed the same distance in 1:20. Robert Ls spin was confined to five furlongs, and he accomplished his work in 1:06%, breezing. Indications were that large fields would contest both stakes.
