LANCASTER TURF NOTES I # — — Three track records that were set on the same day— July 8, 1936— still stand, and will be the target of horses at the nine-day meeting, opening Saturday, June 24. They are held by Jlamburger Jim, Claflag and Miss Gohi. Hamburger Jim covered the sprint distance of about five furlongs in :59; Claflag went a mile and forty yards in 1:46%, and Miss Gohi was timed in 1:48% for a mile and seventy yards. The "Daily Double" will prevail on the first and second races. Only one track record was made last year. That was the one for the route of about a mile and an eighth. Beckville negotiated that distance in 1:54 on June 30, 1938, for a new standard. Seven races will be scheduled daily during the meeting, with the exception of the two Saturdays and July 4, when eight will be run. Jockey Dave Fowler, a Lancaster favorite, plans to ply his trade here again. Kenny Cronk, who campaigned Ray X. and Ragacreek here last year with much success, will return for the nine-day meeting, June 24-July 4. He will race King Today, Motley Firth, Single L., Goodbye Blues, Sun Martin and Little Laura, all of which have been in action at Wheeling. I. J. Collins, Lancaster sportsman, will be represented by ten horses at the local meeting. Earl Daniels will ship Fob, Concerto and Try Fair here from Fairmount Park. The fast sprinter, Tempting Witch, heads the stable of four that M. Huttinger will race here. Tempting Witch should find the distance of about five furlongs much to her liking. Others in the Huttinger string are Gonsbaby, Waswanappi and Yankee Waters. Coming from Fairmount is W. A. Anderson, with Ripplealong, Seven Star, Intrip, Facula and GecsaH. Donna Barona, long a favorite at Lancaster, is a member of the Doug Hoffman stable. Her stablemates are Soldier Call, Military Girl, Curb Bit and Sally Saxon. Augie Sylvester will be included in the jockey colony at the Fairfield County Fair Grounds track. However, fans should not confuse him with Joe Sylvester, who was very much of a favorite here a few years ago.
