Deadline Nearing for Five Stakes at Lincoln Fields Nominations for the five stakes to be decided at Lincoln Fields during the 1942 spring meeting will close Friday, May 15. The feature attractions carry added money values of ,000 each. Of these events, the Crete Handicap, at six furlongs, will be run Saturday, May 23, and the Francis S. Peabody Memorial, at one mile and a sixteenth, will have its decision Memorial Day, Saturday, May 30. Both stakes are for horses three years old and upward. Two-year-olds will headline the program Saturday, June 6, when the Joliet Stakes, a five-furlong dash, will be presented. The Joliet was won by Alsab last year, and the 1942 renewal will mark its fifteenth running. On Saturday, June 13, the La Salle Handicap, at one mile and three-sixteenths, will be decided, and Saturday, June 20, the one mile and a quarter Lincoln Handicap will bring to a close the Lincoln Fields stakes program. The La Salle and the Lincoln Handicaps also are for horses three years old and upward.
