Bull expects a record list of nominations to be made for the seven stakes which will be renewed during the 24-day summer meeting at Empire City, June 29 to July 25. These stakes will close Friday, May 15, and the response of horsemen at this time already has exceeded expectations. In keeping with the liberal policy of the association, three of the stakes have been increaseu in value, so that the endowment to the seven fixtures totals 5,000, as against 2,500 in 1941. The Butler, a handicap for three-year-olds and upward at one and three-sixteenths miles to be renewed Saturday, July 4, has been raised from 5,000 to 0,000 added. It is the richest of the Empire features, as well as one of the most important in the country for handicap horses. The Empire City Handicap, exclusively for three-year-olds, which will be run Saturday, July 11, has been tilted from 0,000 to 5,000 added. The distance of this race, formerly one mile and a furlong, is now one mile and three-sixteenths. The Yonkers Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a sixteenth, will have an added value of 0,000 this year, an increase of ,500 over its ,500 prize in 1941. It will be renewed Saturday, July 25. The East View Stakes, set for decision Wednesday, July 15, is now open only to colts and geldings two years old. It formerly was for two-year-olds of any sex. It carries ,000 added. Another change in conditions is that of making the Wakefield, formerly a handicap, a stake race. It is for two-year-olds, with ,000 added, and will be run Wednesday, July 22. The other stakes listed are: the ,000 added Demoiselle Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, scheduled for Wednesday. July 8, and the ,000 added Fleetwing Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at five and three-quarters furlongs, to be contested Saturday. July 18. The Demoiselle, East View and Wakefield will be run over the five and three-quarters furlongs distance.
