Lydia K. Takes Down Honors In Hayes Purse at Beulah COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 4.— In a rousing stretch duel, in which the three placed horses contested the issue closely lapped all the last sixteenth, C. Locklears Lydia K. was returned winner of the C. H. Hayes and Sons Purse, sixth and featured event of the card at Beulah Park this afternoon. D Christians Cant Catch raced to the place, a nose in advance of Must Go. Lydia K. displaced Welsh Lad from the lead nearing the far turn and, in spite of a wide stretch turn, held on gamely to her task during the run home to win by a half length under keen urging. Cant Catch only wore down Must Go in the last few strides, after the latter had saved ground all the last half mile. Stairs, the popular favorite, dropped out of contention after racing prominently for half the trip.
