» Brookmeade Farm Counting Its Foals Young Thoroughbreds Arrive At Mrs. Sloanes Virginia Nursery, Also in Kentucky UPPERVILLE, Va.. May 4.— Four foals were born recently at Mrs. Dodge Sloanes Brookmeade Farm, near here, and three at Harrie B. Scotts Shandon Farm, outside Lexington, Ky. The noted sportswoman raced such champions of the turf as Cavalcade and High Quest, besides numerous other good horses. Among the four foals at the local nursery is a half brother to Mrs. Sloanes good stake winning home-bred mare, Pomayya. The younger brother to this years heroine of the Black Helen Handicap is a brown -coated son of Challenger H. The little fellow is a Maryland-bred. He was dropped ear her in the year at William L. Branns Glade Valley Farm, near Walkersville, Md., birthplace of Challedon and Pictor. Broodmeade -owned and -bred foals are as follows: At Brookmeade Farm Brown colt, by Challenger n. — Omayya, by Sir Gallahad in. Chestnut filly, by Psychic Bid — Cronerette, by Bright Knight. Bay colt, by Firethorn — Polly Hundred, by Polymelian. Chestnut filly, by Psychic Bid — Step Easy, by Gallant Fox. At Shandon Farm Gray colt, by Grand Time — Sandra II., by Tetratema. Chestnut colt, by Psychic Bid — Harlem . Bell, by The Porter. Bay filly, by Bud Lerner — Katydid, by Display. In Court to Okapi Three of the mares at Brookmeade, Omayya, Croonerette and Step Easy, will be bred this year to Okapi. The latter was brought from Kentucky last summer to join Psychic Bid at the nearby establishment for study duty. Omayya is out of the Omar Khayyam mare, Ommiad, dam of Flag Post, Abbasside, Pomayya, Bid On and the two-year-old filly, Camayya. Step Easy and Croonerette, the other mares going to Okapi, are young individuals. The former is a nine-year-old, by Gallant Fox, from the Sweeper mare, Ondulation, half sister to the good French stake winner, Banshee, and dam of seven winners, including Iago, stake winner in France and Belgium. Croonerette, who raced only at two and rather indifferently, is an eight-year-old daughter of Bright Knight, from Recreation. The latter won a few stakes about 1928, including the Empire City Handicap. She is a half sister to Clock Tower and One Hour, the latter being the dam of Split Second, Magic Hour and Sir Jeffrey. Sandra II., Harlem Bell and Katydid also foaled in Kentucky, will be bred this season to Infinite and Good Goods, respectively, and then brought back here. Sandra II., imported from France, is by Tetratema, out of Slip Along, she by Hurry On. Harlem Bell and Katydid going to Alsabs sire, Good Goods, are also young mares. Harlem Bell is by The Porter, out of Painted Vixen, and Katydid, a half sister to the stake winner and sire, Mokatam, is by Display, from the Brown Prince II mare, Katrina.
