Challante Successful In Pawtucket Offering Finishes Better Than Length Before Tony Weaver in Sprint PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 4.— Mrs. Weston W. Adams Challante was able to hold the command she took after a half mile and capture the South Shore Purse, a six-furlong claiming event that topped todays Narragansett card, as Don Bru-nelle booted home his second winner of the day. The Adams racer was better than a length in front of D. F. Harringtons Tony Weaver, with E. C. Eastwoods My Elsie another two lengths behind in third place. Tall Trees Stables Milk Punch finished fourth. The Challenger n. mare successfully challenged L. Barkers favored Sumatra HI., who took the lead midway of the back stretch, after a head-and-head battle. The Leteo mare was pretty much out of it thereafter and Tony Weaver responded stoutly under Ted Atkinson in an effort to overcome the leader. Rounding the turn into the stretch it was the Byrd gelding that offered the most obstinate contention to the Adams standardbearer, Challante being forced to the limit to win by daylight. My Elsie, eased back in the first furlong, made her bid after the first half mile, as Hilton "Rabbit" Dabson sent her into contention rounding the turn for home. But the leaders had too much and the Sun Flag mare could finish no better than third. Challante returned 0.80 to her supporters and was caught in l:123/s.
