Kentucky News and Notes CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 4. Thomas Jolley will move six of his own horses and L. A. Mosleys Air Beauty to Churchill Downs from Douglas Park Wednesday. Apprentice E. Campbell, who has been riding with good success on Maryland tracks, reported to Jolley Monday and will do the riding for the stable. Guy Man-gan accompanied Campbell to Churchill Downs to handle the lads engagement book. George Edwards, former well-known agent, is now a member of the United States Army and is stationed at Anniston, Ala. Harry Wellman and Mrs. Wellman, parents of trainer M. J. Wellman, returned to their home in Lexington, Ky., Monday after witnessing the Kentucky Derby renewal. James L. Chesney, Belleville, 111., turfman, plans to transfer his stable to Detroit immediately after the close of Churchill Downs. Jockey Don Scurlock will accompany the Chesney contingent to the Motor City oval. Wilmer Fisher, who has been assisting Matt Jordan, trainer of the Darby Dan Farm, left for Detroit to resume his duties with the Fair Grounds official staff. Al Miller, trainer for I. J. Collins, is showing steady improvement in health and is convalescing at St. Anthonys Hospital here. Miller recently underwent a major operation. George Stempel, San Francisco owner, reached here in time to witness the Kentucky Derby. He expects to remain several days. Roy Slomer has several horses quartered here for him. The two-year-old chestnut filly by Byrd and Waterflag, owned by Harry Ekey, will be known as Alia. Name for the juvenile was received today by owner-trainer Ekey. In order to make room for the twelve younger horses, Jack Hanover has been instructed by owner Hyman Friedberg to dispose of some of the older horses in the establishment. Hanover expects to weed out some of the Friedberg horses in the next few days. Raymond Russell, owner of Alamo Downs, at San Antonio, Texas, and a Derby visitor, departed this morning for Chicago. Mrs. Russell, who reached here in advance of her husband, will remain for several days before returning to Texas. James Bolton and Walter Stakelum, annual visitors at Derby time, returned to their homes in New Orleans after spending a week here. Ed Louis and Lawrence Bierman, brothers of Carroll, were Derby visitors and saw their brother drive Valdina Farms Valdina Orphan into third place in that stake. Willie Carroll announced himself ready to return to the saddle. Jockey Wendell Eads left for Pimlico, where he reports to B. A. Jones, trainer of the Calumet Farm stable. A. G. Wilson, trainer of the T. D. Buhl horses, returned to Maryland, whence he will ship four of his thoroughbreds to Detroit. He has six at the Motor City track. Ben Whitaker and Mrs. Whitaker left for New York with their trainer, J. H. Mc-Coole. The latter shipped Whitakers Requested to Pimlico for the Preakness Stakes and the veteran Sickle T. to New York. Instead of returning to New Orleans with several score others who came here from that point, Dr. F. J. Mains, prominent Crescent City dentist, decided to remain here for the balance of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Eads and their children left this morning for their home in Charleston, 111. They came here to be with their son, Wendell Eads, contract rider for the Calumet Farm stable. Miss Cleo George, sister of Richard B. George, owner of the Glad Acres Farm stable, returned to her home in Dallas. The Glad Acres Farm division at the local track is being conditioned by John Zoeller.
