Jockey J. E. Oros took the son of Islam in hand going to the first turn and, rating him well, conserved him to the final quarter, then, moving up swiftly, came between the early leaders after reaching the home stretch and, under mild urging, won going away. Cooling Spring, the B. M. Smith star performer, set all the pace while racing head and head with Vegas Justice. After racing the latter into defeat, he drew away but was not good enough to withstand the winners challenge and just lasted to save the place narrowly. The latter forced the pace throughout and, under punishment, took command entering I the home stretch, but was unable to resist the winners closing rush and just managed to outgame Cloudy Weather for the place. Time for the seven furlongs was 1:30*5. Ambo paid her backers 2.40. After setting all his own pace, Young County, racing in the interests of Joe W. Brown, survived a stretch duel to win the second end of the Daily Double by a scant nose over the determined Rejectable. The Brown colorbearer took command by a short margin in the first few yards, withstood repeated attempts from Rejectable to take the lead and, under a hard drive all through the final furlong, outgamed the latter.
