Bull Dog Holds Place at Coldstream Thirty-Six Mates For Foreign Sire Twenty Are Home Mares — Has High Percentage of Stake-Winning Progeny LEXINGTON, Ky., May 6.— Bull Dog, the horse who has done much to make Coldstream Stud a big-time thoroughbred nursery, is being mated with 36 choice matrons this year. Coldstream Stud is sending 20 to the Teddy sire. The other 16 are outside brood mares. Now 15 years old, Bull Dog has been a success at stud in this country. In 1930, after the first crop of Sir Gallahad HI. foals, headed by Gallant Fox, had made a phenomenal showing, Charles B. Shaffer went to France to purchase a full brother of the noted sire. His name was Bull Dog, and it has been reported that Shaffer had to give 5,000 to get him. Through 1941, Bull Dog had sired eight crops of 173 foals of racing age, of which 126 were winners, 31 of them stake winners. His get had won ,355,381.
