Topheavy Grey Lag Field Very Likely See as Many as Fifteen Starters in Closing-Day Attraction at Jamaica NEW YORK, N. Y., May 6.— A field of fifteen appears likely for the 5,000 added Grey Lag Handicap, the mile and a furlong feature which will bring Jamaicas 27-day spring meeting to a successful close on Saturday. If this estimate proves correct, the event, named after the great horse who brought undying fame to the Rancocas Stable of Harry F. Sinclair two decades ago, will gross 9,400 and net the owner of the winner 4,000. The_Grey Lag was only a ,500 overnight event in 1940, but it produced such a thrilling race that it was turned into a handicap with an endowment of 0,000 in 1941, when Arnold Hangers Dit was returned the winner. This years running carries an increase in value of ,000. Market Wise Among Probables A check-up this morning in the racing secretarys office listed the following among the 42 eligibles as probable starters: Market Wise, 125; Boysy, 123; Our Boots, 118; The Rhymer, 112; Sir Marlboro, 110; King Torch, 109; Olympus, 109; Gramps, 109; Marriage, 108; Waller, 108; Sun Eager, 107; Bolingbroke, 105; Welcome Pass, 105; Devils Crag, 102, and Paul Pry, 100. Four of the high weights for the Grey Lag— Whirlaway, 127; Challedon, 126; Mio-land, 126, and Attention, 123— were to run in the 0,000 Dixie Handicap at Pimlico today. As the Dixie is so close to the Grey Lag, it is unlikely these would come on from Maryland to run back here on the week-end. However, winners of 0,000 after publication of Grey Lag weights, will be required to carry three pounds extra. The Grey Lag will mark the return to competition of Louis Tufanos Cinderella horse, Market Wise, which has been training smartly during the past fortnight. He has not been under silks since his Wide-ner engagement at Hialeah in early March.
