Dorsett scored his first victory at the meeting after two other attempts when he carried the colors of Joe W. Brown to victory in the Aurora Purse, mid-week feature event, by a length margin over Relious. The six-year-old son of Cohort and Michigan Girl rushed into a long lead rounding the first turn and, under mild urging, held his advantage throughout, to win with something left. The four-year-old colt, Relious, from the stable of C. H. Dursch, accounted for the place but was no real threat to the winner. Moselem, racing in the interest of Mrs. Monte Weil, closed a lot of ground in the final quarter mile to take down the third money. T. M. Dorsett, who was the public choice, ran the mile and seventy yards in 1:49% and returned his supporters a .80 mutuel. Arched, racing in the silks of J. Barrett, t, finally redeemed himself after four trys when he withstood a last-minute challenge es ! to win the opening event of the card. The e five-year-old son of Monks Way was rushed into the lead after reaching the : back stretch and, under urging by jockey] G. Martin, drew away to a long lead. Rounding the final bend, he started to tire, but had enough left to stave of the bold 1 challenge of Chiefs Boy to win by a head. Guerin kept his mount going along rounding the stretch turn to win as she pleased. Keekee, away slowiy, made up a lot of ground to take the place. The running of the third race was marred by an accident when the leading apprentice rider here, Jess Higley, was thrown from Ration entering the back stretch when the filly quit suddenly. Ration was running second at the time. The fourth offering was accounted for by Commission when he carried the colors of T. B. McGrath home in front by a narrow margin. The gelded son of Banstar, outrun in the early stages, closed strongly after being steered to the outside rounding the final bend and, under a drive in the last sixteenth mile, got up in the last stride to win in a picture finish over the early pacemaker, Paul Lee. The latter, having speed from the start, took command at once, set all the pace, but was not good enough to hold the winner in the closing drive.
