-4 . — Kentucky Handicap Hopefuls in Trials Royal Crusader, Technician And Agricole Go Half Mile In Preparation for Stake LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 13.— Interest in the Kentucky Handicap, one mile and an eighth, closing-day feature at Churchill Downs, reached a high pitch here today when several of the more prominent candidates turned in clever trials. The R C Stables Royal Crusader, who scored a decisive victory in the Churchill Downs Handicap here during Derby week, breezed a useful half mile in :51. The son of Crusader and Talented pulled up after his work in good shape and indicated his fitness for the Saturday engagement. Although Woolford Farms Technician and Theodore E. Muellers Agricole have not progressed as satisfactorily with their training as was desired, both these nominees are probable starters in the Kentucky Handicap. Technician and Agricole were both on the track this morning, the former breezing four furlongs in :50, while the latter turned the same distance in :483/5, handily. Aonbarr Has Many Followers Miss Helen Hickmans Aonbarr is still regarded by many turfmen and race devotees as the horse to whip in the final day stake. The son of Boatswain and Hedemora won a host of friends here when he ran the mighty Whirlaway to a head in the renewal of the Clark Handicap. Trainer George S. Howell is well pleased with Aonbarrs present condition and stated that his charge will have no excuses should he be defeated. Junius W. Bells Steel Heels, locally-owned thoroughbred, is still another who must be given consideration. The Bell col-orbearer has not been to the post during the current Downs meeting, but has trained exceptionally well for his Kentucky effort. Howard Wells will have a sturdy representative in Equifox, who served notice Monday that he must be reckoned with in the Kentucky. The five-year-old son of Equipoise defeated Boss Hoss, Anxiety, Franks Boy and Omelet, among others, in an overnight allowance event at seven furlongs. Making his first start of the year, Equifox came from far back to earn a driving half-length verdict, and he should improve off that race. Others expected to go to the post for the Kentucky are Jake Lowensteins Heart-man, Mrs. E. L. Martins Supreme Sir, Mrs. Carl Grahams greatly improved Boss Hoss and Arcturus Stables Pink Gal, winner of her last outing.
