— " " ■ Several Metropolitan Hopefuls Drill TJockey Club Plate At Belmont Today Five Juveniles to Tangle In Sporting Event — Alsab Checks In From Pimlico ELMONT, L. I., N. Y., May 13.— The arrival of Alsab, several important trials by eligibles for Saturdays 0,000 Metropolitan mile and the entry of five smart juveniles in tomorrows featured Jockey Club Plate were the "extra added attractions" at beautiful Belmont today. William L. Branns Maryland-bred Pic-tor is rated most formidable by handicap-per Jack Campbell among the "Met" eligibles seen in action during mid-week training hours. This smallish son of Challenger II. is assigned 120 pounds in the week-end eight-furlong event. He was sent a half mile by trainer Ed Cristmas and, working on the huge main track, was clocked in :23ys, :35 and :4725, moving handily all the way. Three Metropolitan eligibles bracketed in the 114-pound assessment in Campbells weight assignments were called upon for fast moves. Col. E. R. Bradleys Best Seller, who emerged as a formidable handicap aspirant in the Widener Cup, breezed half a mile in :51. In his latest essay the Idle Hour homebred fashioned a busy pace much of the way in the thrilling Dixie renewal last week at Pimlicc. Myron Selznicks Cant Walt, who is striving to effect a comeback this spring, went six furlongs handily in 1:14%, with a first half in :49 and five furlongs in 1:01. Arnold Hangers gelding, Dit, another listed at 1:14 pounds in the "Met," reeled off half a mile in :233s, :»% and :422/5, bowling along well within himself. Staretor Works Six Furlongs Staretor, one of the less conspicuous candidates with 110 pounds as his impost, put in a good move when he bounded over a half in :48, five furlongs in 1:01 and six furlongs in 1:14. These moves, all on the main course, were more useful than sensational. They did not alter Saturdays running of New Yorks great mile handicap in its aspects as a three-cornered test among Mrs. Parker Comings Attention, Louie Tufanos romantic Market Wise, and Charley Howards Mioland, who are "the big three" of the lineup. The Jockey Club Plate is an interesting and unusual event for two-year-olds at five furlongs over the juvenile course. It is restricted to newcomers "owned or leased by members of The Jockey Club which have not won ,300 or two races. Maidens allowed five pounds." This special drew a very small field for its running as the feature tomorrow afternoon, however. Only a quintet are scheduled to race starter George Cassidy. Two of the group, Jamesborough and Jack S. L., are winners. A. H. Morris Leases Jack S. L. Th? lone colt leased for the occasion is Mrs. J. S. Letelliers Jack S. L., who will carry the colors of A. H. Morris. Jamesborough represents his owner, George Widener, new president at Belmont; Stylus flies the Ziegler banner; Dove • Pie runs for his owner, Jock Whitney, and Rex for W. M. Jeffords, who is his owner. Jack S. L. and Jamesborough are best recommended, and will draw the bulk of support. Both won at Jamaica, Jack S. L. racing n a claimer and overcoming the disadvantages of breaking from number 14. Dove Pie and Rex are speedy, but previously disappointed, the former as a "good thing." Theres a precedent for a victory by Jack S. L. Morris leased High Breeze from the Pelleteri establishment for the first running of this overnight attraction, several seasons back, and was gratified to see that dusky colt win consummately from a large field. There will be v?ight races including a steeplechase tomorrow, with a ,000 added class "C" handicap of six furlongs on the main oval as the secondary feature. Three of the seven flat races are at distances beyond one mile.
