The precocious son of Swing and Sway — Chantress, who set a disputed worlds record for four and one -half furlongs in capturing Havre de Graces Aberdeen Stakes, led from soon after the start to reach the judges a length and a half clear of Cedar Farms Brandy Punch, with Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Brass Band an additional two lengths farther back in third place. A good track prevailed for todays eighth Ral Parr running and Saggy covered the four and one-half furlongs in :541/5, only one and three -fifths second slower than the track record. Although he was slated to engaged only four rivals overnight, the appeal of the handsome little Sagner colt was reflected in the enthusiastic throng of 14,585 who turned out to see him perform. Saggy, who cost only ,700 as a yearling, earned ,485 by virtue of his brilliant Ral Parr victory and now has won 5,305 in capturing the only four starts of his career to date, lb addition to the lions share of the purse, owner Sagner was presented a handsome trophy by Mrs. Ral Parr, widow of the former director of the Maryland Jockey Club for whom the race takes its name. In remaining undefeated while registering his second consecutive stakes victory, Saggy carried 122 pounds, his most exacting impost to date. He showed no signs of faltering under this burden in the closing stages and the manner in which he drew out near the end indicated the fine edge of condition he has obtained under the adept training of L. E. Ogle. Because of the small field, starter Jim Milton experienced little difficulty in effecting a good start. While Brandy Punch, levely weighted with the victor, broke on top, the alert Allan Gray artfully moved Saggy through on the inside to wrest the lead. Saving ground thereafter, Saggy led the rest of the way home although on several occasions in mid-stretch, Gray was forced to rouse his mount to repulse the bold but futile challenges by Brandy Punch. Brass Band and Equibit waged a battle all cf their own several lengths off the leaders with the Vanderbilt colt getting up in the last jump to save third honors by a nose.
