Early Sale of Mutuel Tickets To Be Provided on Preakness PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 1. — Reverting to a system used prior to the war years, the Maryland Jockey Club this season will provide early sales of mutuel tickets on the Preakness, rather than confining the betting period to the time between the preceding race and the Preakness on Saturday, May 10. Special windows will be opened at the time gates are swung wide Preakness Day and persons wishing to wager on their choice on the Preakness may do so at once, rather than try to get through the usual jammed betting rings just prior to the race. The special windows will close at the time of the fourth race, so that all wagers may be recorded in the regular pool. The racing commission has given its consent to the plan, believing it will be a considerable aid in eliminating congestion just before the big race.
