Fourteen Sprinters Entered In Sufolk Feature Offering SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 1. — There werent any May flowers to be seen in this sector this afternoon and the showers developed into an unabated downpour last night that turned the track into a quagmire. To add further to the miserable elements, a penetrating chill, aided by a brisk wind, swept the grounds. New England turf patrons, however, have proven a hardy lot, and this was reflected in the grand attendance and pari -mutuel handle cince the meeting started 12 racing days ago. Likely as not, a change in wind direction or a bright sun will bring on ideal condi-tiors, 3rd one dyed-in-the-wool Yankee said to a visitor, from the South, who was bemoaning the wretched weather: "Well, wait a minute." Anyway racing secretary John Turner isnt encountering any difficulty filling his daily programs and tomorrow, in spite of the inevitable condition of the racing strip, he has patterned a fine card that should bring on a number of exciting skirmishes. His top event is the Esplanade Purse, a six-furlong dash for four-year-olds and upward, and no less than 14 smart sprinters have been entered overnight for the ,000 purse. Only 12, however, will start, two being on the ?.lso eligible list. From all indications, tl:e Kenmore Stables Hy-Charlie will get the best part of the publics backing, for the black gelded son of Hygro — Sun Trite, by 5un Briar, has the reputation of being a "mud-running fool." In addition to this heralded ability as an off-track horse, he has proven rather conclusively that he is in first class racing condition.
