Five Classy Misses Seek Regret Handicap Today Bridal Flower and Be Faithful Head Field for Jamaica Event JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., May 1.— A pair of exceedingly classy females who used to sport the white and green silks of the late Col. Edward Riley Bradley are slated to meet three rivals in the 0,000 Regret Handicap at Jamaica tomorrow and it promises to be an engrossing encounter. They are King Ranchs Bridal Flower and Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers Be Faithful, who will carry 122 and 121 pounds, respectively. They will be opposed by A. C. Ernsts Aladear, 111; Leo Gerngross Sylvia Dear, 106, and Frank Forestieres Regal Maid, 100. On paper, and in racing secretary John B. Campbells evident estimation, the Regret shapes up as a two-horse race and a very hard one to pick. Bridal Flower was generally regarded as the best three-year-old filly of last year, winning the Gazelle Stakes, New Castle, Beldame and Roamer Handicaps and earning 18,530 in the course of the season. She showed she had lost none of her speed when closing with a rush to win her local debut by a nose from Rytina at the un-suited distance of six furlongs. Tomorrows mile and a sixteenth is much more to the liking of the daughter of Challenger H. — Big Hurry. Be Faithful, who is a year older, has been scratched from two local engagements, but is expected to go postward tomorrow regardless of track conditions. This brown daughter of Bimelech was a switch-tailed and sulky miss when she raced for Colonel Bradley in New York, but improved vastly when acquired by Louis B. Mayer and taken to California. On the Coast she was good enough to run a mile and a sixteenth in 1:42 with 119 pounds up at Hollywood Park, time that is just two-fifths slower than the worlds record held by Snow Boots, and which was also established in California last year. Snow Boots mark was made at Santa Anita, however, which is generally regarded as a slightly faster track than Hollywood Park where Be Faithful skipped so lightly. Be Faithful also showed a world of speed and a little more stamina when she won the Beverly Handicap at Washington Park, getting a mile and a furlong in 1:49% with 121 pounds on her back. Bridal Flower is sure to be favored, possibly at odds-on, though Be Faithful has trained well for this engagement. Of the others, Aladear has occasionally raced well enough to be accorded a chance at the weights and finished second to Bridal Flower in the Beldame last year. Sylvia Dear is a three-year-old who has some fair races to her credit, while Regal Maid seems completely outclassed.
